Book Review: Are You Sleeping in a Safe Place?

Rolf Gordon, Dulwich Health Society, 1989
This book should be required reading for all fatigue sufferers since the issue it addresses - geopathic stress - is thought to be a major component in most fatigue sufferers' illness.
However, this book is now long out of print and I was lucky to find a copy by chance in a second hand book shop. So this information is to disseminate its contents rather than encourage a purchase!
The book is dedicated to the author's son who died at 26 years of age of testicular cancer. Whether the author is right or not, he believes that if both he and his son had been more informed at the time about geopathic stress, that his son's death could have been avoided.
His son was diagnosed with cancer and had some treatment that looked promising. He then went to live in a cottage where a friend subsequently detected a very strong underwater stress line and encouraged the son to move, but his cancer had returned and he got secondaries and died soon afterwards.
In researching the topic, Rolf Gordon was frustrated to find that there was a large body of research in Germany spanning 50 years in relation to this topic. For example, one researcher, Dr Hagar, had documented over 5,000 cases of serious illness that had been related to the detrimental effects of earth energies.
He feels that this is a common causative or contributory factor in a lot of serious physical and psychological conditions.
What is geopathic stress?
A grid of rays emanate from within the body of the earth out through the earth's mantle and we have coexisted with these rays for millenia. However, if they encounter subterranean water, concentrations of mineral deposits, fault lines or underground cavities, their wavelength becomes distorted and harmful to living organisms creating geopathic stress lines on the earth's surface.
This issue is estimated to affect about 2.5% of the earth's crust and to detrimentally affect about 8% of earth's population who may unwittingly be adversely affected by this invisible but potent and relentless force.
The Chinese knew about this effect 4,000 years ago and so it seems, did ancient man. In a study conducted by Sig lonegran he did not find one ancient settlement located over negative geopathic stress lines. Part of the problem is that the Catholic church persecuted dowsers as witches 400 years ago effectively terrifying or killing the practitioners and so the people who understood this phenomenon were either killed or silenced and the knowledge died out.
The health effects of geopathic stress
In 'Are you sleeping in a safe place?' the author collates much evidence about the harmful effects of geopathic stress including that of Aake Lingren, an engineer and Swedish dowser says that he has never found a case of serious illness without the affected individual's bed being located over harmful geopathic stress lines.
In another well-known study, Dr F. S. Anderson - an oncologist in charge of a cancer clinic - arranged for a dowser to investigate the homes of 300 cancer patients. The study showed that all had been sleeping over strong geopathic stress lines.
Later Ole Havmand, a Danish dentist and one-time MP suffered near-fatal liver cancer and became curious when he found out that he had been sleeping over the conflagration of two geopathic stress lines. He then surveyed the houses of 40 of his patients who had cancer and
In a 1929 study which was published by Berlin's Central Committee for Cancer Research and presented to the Medical Congress of Munich, Gustav von Pohl determined that you could only get cancer if you were exposed to geopathic stress. He did a study where he rated geopathic stress on a scale from 1-16 and found that those rated 9 or above were cancer-inducing.
In Von Pohl's book 'Earth Currents: Causative factor of cancer and other diseases' he plotted geopathic stress lines of a Bavarian town he was not familiar with under controlled conditions. Then the records of 54 people who had died of cancer in the town were revealed to him and it was demonstrated that every single one had slept on a bed located over an earth ray for some time. He later returned to the town to find that this was also true of the 11 further cancer deaths.
People have also long observed that farmers tend to inherit cancer. However, what they inherit is actually a sleeping place that detrimentally affects their health. He cites three generations of farmers who all died of lung cancer at nearly the same age.
One doctor claims that all his patients are victims of geopathic stress otherwise they would not be his patients. Geopathic stress is thought to disrupt the many aspects of metabolism that depend upon bioelectric processes and the orientation of cell polarities. Geopathic stress has been implicated in causing many disorders including, but not limited to, the following:
-
Chronic fatigue, M.E. and fibromyalgia
-
Infertility and difficult pregnancies
-
Depression and suicide
-
Divorce
-
Insomnia
-
High blood pressure
-
Stress
-
Alcoholism
-
Arthritis
-
Multiple sclerosis
-
Epilepsy
-
Cancers
-
Asthma
-
Nosebleeds
-
Menstrual disturbances
-
Meningitis
-
Heart attacks
-
Kidney stones
-
Any disorder which is resistant to treatment.
Geopathic stress is also one of the causes of 'sick building syndrome' and can cause friction, sickness and stress in the workforce. And as the author, Rolf Gordon points out, most of us would not dream of buying a house without a structural survey, but we don't even think to get an assessment of the geopathic energies affecting the house which will affect our wellbeing.
The book contains many anecdotal reports including one by a German physician who recounts the case of a young girl with leukaemia who had a bone marrow transplant and seemed to be successfully recovering. As she became better she was moved back from her parents' bedroom to her own and rapidly relapsed. A dowser found that two lines intersected under the girl's bed, her bed was moved and she made a successful recovery thereafter.
Plants and animals and geopathic stress
Geopathic stress lines affect all living things and whilst dogs tend to avoid negative geopathic stress lines, cats, bees and ants tend to favour them. Also typically, when a house is treated for geopathic stress, infestations of pests such as ants and wasps will leave and not return.
It has also long been recognised that sheep do not like negative rays and a time-honoured practice used to be to drive sheep onto the potential building site and then to build the house wherever the sheep slept knowing that area was 'safe'.
Other signs include the fact that fruit trees planted on negative geopathic stress lines may never thrive, flowering but not fruiting or may develop growths or become twisted. Plants located over geopathic stress lines will also rot, which can make these negative lines a good place to locate a compost heap!

Cot death
Most cot deaths occur between the 5th and 7th months of the babies life and most occur at night. The author maintains that this may well be because the negative effects are cumulative and take several months to weaken the baby and also because the rays are strongest at night and the baby at their most vulnerable. Also, cot deaths appear to occur in waves in communities and this may be due to changes in the weather conditions.
This calls to mind the case in the UK of Sally Clarke, a lawyer who was convicted of murder after her two sons died of cot deaths. She served 3 years of her prison sentence before the verdict was overturned, but sadly died a short while later aged 42 years of age never having recovered from not only losing her children in tragic circumstances, but being accused of, and cruelly punished for, their murder.
Signs of geopathic or underground water stress in babies include:
-
Restlessness and crying
-
Sleeping consistently sideways or in odd positions in an attempt to avoid the rays
-
Trying to get out of bed
-
Getting out of bed and sleeping in other locations
-
That the child sleeps better in other locations
-
Bed wetting and nightmares.
Geopathic stress and school children
In the book, the author cites a survey by the respected Austrian researcher, Kathe Bachler, where she determined that 9% of all children with learning difficulties either slept or had a school desk (or both) over negative geopathic stress lines. This potentially has affected and continues to adversely affect millions of children who may exhibit the following signs:
-
Being tired a lot
-
Lacking an appetite in the morning
-
Being moody
-
Being unable to concentrate
-
Performing at school below their capabilities
-
Appearing lazy and/or depressed
-
Being slow to learn
-
Being hyperactive
-
Being disruptive
-
Being difficult to handle
-
Being aggressive
-
Being stubborn
-
Sleeping poorly
-
Having nightmares
-
Lacking strength and vitality
Geopathic stress: Methods of detection
Geopathic stress can be detected using a geo-magnetometer. However, this is slow and cumbersome method that does not differentiate between many of the different kinds of rays.
More effective is a simple dowsing device and in Are you sleeping in a safe place?, the author gives details of how to construct a DIY device using two ball point pen casings and two metal coat hangers cut into an 'L' shape (about 12 cm and 40 cm). He advises putting the short end of the 'L' shape into the pen casings, and ensuring that the rods are held horizontally and that movement of the rods is not restricted by having them touch your hands or by placing your thumb over the pens. He suggests walking slowly over the area being surveyed - keeping the rods horizontal - and when the object being dowsed for is detected the rods will either swing open or will cross.
You need to be very clear either within your own mind or by speaking out loud about what your intention is when dowsing eg: seeking harmful harmful rays, etc., and also be clear that your intention is that the rods should react in some way when you encounter such energies. With harmful earth rays the rods will orientate in the direction of the rays, so that you can repeat the process to map a house garden or office. It is also advisable to criss-cross the area in several directions because the angle at which the rays are approached may affect the result.
Rolf Gordon suggests starting outside the house and marking the rays found and their direction with sticky tape. The average ray is about 18" (45 cm) wide, although they can be wider. He then suggests mapping the ground floor and other floors. Also, it is advisable to recheck occasionally as the negative geopathic stress lines can move.
Many of today's major companies and organisations use dowsers to locate water or oil supplies and they simply would not do this if it did not work in purely financial terms.
The strength of the geopathic stress rays increases in the evening, and they are twice as strong between one and two o'clock in the morning. They are also three times stronger at full moon and you are also more vulnerable in bed at night because you are lying horizontally, you are stationary and you spend a long time there. People affected may have 'paradoxical' sleep where the body does not fully rest and repair. The rays are also stronger during stormy weather. Do not proceed with this mapping process if you are feeling very drained. It is also good practice to either wash your hands under flowing water or shower afterwards to cleanse any negative energies picked up.
It is especially important not to locate a bed over these lines and if affected, moving the bed will result in improvement within about 6 weeks - although it may take longer if chronically ill.
Treating geopathic stress
There are several methods of treating negative geopathic stress lines affecting the home or office, however the one that Rolf Gordon recommends is that of the RadiTech multiwave oscillator which stablises the electrical circuit of the building cutting out harmful effects and making it into a pure wave carrier.

Devices to counter geopathic stress include the RadiTech Earth Energy Balancing device (as recommended by Rolf Gordon), and the Helios harmoniser and Geomack devices. A web search using these terms should reveal a local distributor.
Practitioners known as house healers and some Fung Shui experts can also address the issue of geopathic stress and some may work remotely. An internet search for your area or asking around should uncover these practitioners or contact the dowsing society in the UK clickwww.britishdowsers.org and in the US click www.dowsers.org.
